Step 7: Making Money With Your Blog
There are a LOT of different methods that people use to make money with their blogs. Rather than give you a list of a kajillion different methods, I’m going to give you the most effective methods – the ones I would recommend starting with.
The most common method for making money with a blog is by running ads!
That might sound complicated, but it isn’t! Take a look at this screenshot of my sister’s blog (notice the ad next to the red arrow):
When people click on that ad, my sister gets paid! It’s as simple as that.
But How Do You Get Advertisers For Your Blog?
When I talk to people about making money with a blog, this is by far the most common question that I get. Fortunately, you don’t have to get advertisers! There are programs out there that take care of this for you and the most common one is called Google Adsense.
Google has relationships with literally hundreds of thousands of advertisers and they will let you use THEIR ads on your blog! You simply share revenue with Google. They give you a cut of the commission when people click on the ads.
This program is 100% free to use and easy to set up.
Since this program is the best and easiest way to get started, I would highly recommend starting with it. Once you have a few hundred thousand visitors per month on your blog, you will have more lucrative options but this is a great place to start.
How Do You Get Paid?
If you use Google Adsense, they offer two ways to get paid. First, they can send you a check. Second, they can direct deposit right in your bank account. I use direct deposit because it’s less work for me! At the end of every month, I get a deposit.
How Do You Increase Your Earnings?
This is simple. You increase your earnings by increasing your traffic. Between 1-10% of your traffic will end up clicking on an ad. The exact percentage depends primarily on the topic of your blog but after you get going you’ll notice that every month, the same percentage of your visitors will click on an ad. Let’s say you get 2% of your visitors to click an ad.
At 2%, if you have 10,000 visitors in a month, you will generate 200 clicks. If you were able to grow your blog to 100,000 visitors per month, you would generate 2,000 clicks which is obviously a lot more clicks and ten times as much money. It takes time to build up traffic but it’s obviously worth it.
How Much Does Google Pay For A Click?
This actually depends mostly on the topic of your blog. I have seen clicks worth between $0.05 and $14 on my blogs. I’d say most of the time, you are going to see clicks between $0.20 and $0.50 a piece.
Making money with your blog is a numbers game! The more traffic you can get, the more you will generate clicks. I have now been able to create four different blogs that produced over $5,000 per month. Building traffic is kind of my speciality and if you want to increase the traffic to your blog, make sure you read my lesson on that!
What’s Next? Well, you’ve reached the end of the guide. I’ve put thousands of hours into it and my little heart hopes that it’s been h
